Who Destroyed the Nord Stream Pipeline?

The New York Times reported that U.S. officials have reviewed new intelligence indicating that a group supportive of Ukraine, likely composed of Ukrainians or Russians, carried out the attack on the Nord Stream pipeline last year, but without reaching definitive conclusions. The newspaper cited U.S. officials stating that there is no evidence implicating Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky or senior aides in the operation, nor that those involved acted under the direction of any Ukrainian government official.

The U.S. newspaper indicated that the intelligence review suggests that the attackers oppose Russian President Vladimir Putin "but did not identify the members of the group, the planning of the operation, or who funded it." Additionally, it mentioned that officials, who declined to be named, stated that U.S. officials did not disclose the nature of the intelligence or how it was obtained, nor any details regarding the strength of the evidence it contains. They noted that it does not lead to conclusive conclusions.

The United States and NATO had described the attacks that occurred in September 2022 on the gas pipelines as "sabotage," while Moscow blamed the West. Neither side has provided evidence.
