Indian police officials indicated today, Friday, that "security forces used tear gas and fired bullets to disperse a crowd of about 500 people in the troubled state of Manipur in northeastern India, resulting in one death and 20 injuries." Police officials stated, "Groups of militants exchanged fire with security forces in other areas of the state, but it is not yet clear if this incident is related to ethnic violence." Another police official clarified that "a few individuals from the paramilitary forces were also injured in the clash, which occurred a day before the G20 summit hosted by India in the capital, New Delhi, located 2,500 kilometers away."
