As the issue of waste and animal remains, which are transported from outside Beirut and dumped by unknown individuals in the Ard Jaloul area and its surroundings under the cover of darkness, worsens—causing a significant spread of epidemics and an increase in rodents and insects, along with unpleasant odors—a meeting was held at the office of Beirut Governor Marwan Aboud to address the problem, attended by Environment Minister Nasser Yassin.
After discussions, it was agreed to issue a joint circular prohibiting the slaughter of livestock in meat sales locations, and to implement joint patrols by the Beirut Municipal Guard, the civil police of Ghobeiry, and health inspectors from both municipalities. Their task will be to confiscate motorcycles (tuk-tuks) and carts and to issue violation reports against slaughterhouse owners, handing over the confiscated items to Beirut Police.
It was also decided to prevent waste transport vehicles and animal remains from entering the Ghobeiry area and the UNRWA camp into the Ard Jaloul dumps and what is known as the "studio dump" within the city of Beirut. Additionally, continuous communication will be maintained with the concerned parties to monitor and implement the above clauses.
