EU Expresses Concern Over Twitter Changes

The European Union has expressed its concern regarding Twitter's layoffs and the easing of content moderation on the platform. European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders stated after a meeting with representatives from Twitter at its headquarters in Dublin: "During the meeting at Twitter's headquarters, I emphasized that we expect compliance with the obligations related to the Digital Services Act and the EU's data protection rules." The EU had previously published a report indicating that Twitter and other social media platforms had reduced their monitoring of reports regarding the promotion of violence and hate. It is noted that Twitter laid off many of its employees following Elon Musk's acquisition of the platform. Musk has also reinstated some accounts of controversial figures, including former U.S. President Donald Trump, and announced his intention to "pardon" suspended accounts.
