Israeli Supreme Court Sets Expanded Hearing on Prime Minister Disqualification Law

The Israeli Supreme Court has scheduled a new hearing for next month to review appeals submitted against an amended law that could limit the conditions under which a Prime Minister can be deemed unfit for office. Following an initial session held on Thursday, the Supreme Court instructed the government to respond to arguments stating that the law should not take effect immediately, for fear it may be seen as specifically designed for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The court stated that a larger panel of 11 judges, instead of the usual three, is set to consider the case in a follow-up session on September 28.
