The European Commission announced today, Friday, that it will provide 127 million euros (135 million dollars) in aid to Tunisia as part of an agreement aimed at combating illegal migration from Africa to Europe. The Commission stated that it will allocate 60 million euros to support Tunisia's budget and will disburse a package worth approximately 67 million euros in the coming days to strengthen Tunisia's capacity to combat human trafficking and tighten border controls. Tunisia and the European Union signed a "strategic partnership" agreement in July to combat illegal migration in exchange for financial support when the number of boats leaving the North African country for Europe sharply increased.
