Chinese authorities have eased some of the strictest COVID-19 prevention measures, including reducing the quarantine period by two days for close contacts of infected individuals and incoming travelers, and abolishing penalties for airlines that carry infected passengers. Under the new rules, the quarantine period for close contacts and incoming travelers will be reduced to five days in centralized locations, plus three days at home. On the other hand, Chinese authorities have intensified lockdowns and other restrictions to combat COVID-19 to prevent the spread of infections as cases rise to their highest levels since the Shanghai lockdown earlier this year, with cities like Beijing and Zhengzhou experiencing record daily infections.
