Kyiv Criticizes Russia's Presidency of the UN Security Council

Andriy Yermak, director of the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, criticized the "symbolic blow" of Russia assuming the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council. Yermak wrote on his official Twitter account, "It's not just a shame. It is another symbolic blow to the rules-based system of international relations." He highlighted the coincidence of this presidency starting on a holiday for one terror state—Iran—while another terror state—Russia—begins its presidency.

Yermak also criticized Iran, which Kyiv and its allies accuse of supplying Russia with weapons, including hundreds of attack drones that have damaged Ukrainian infrastructure. He stated, "It is very telling that on the holiday of a terrorist state, which is Iran, another terrorist state, which is Russia, begins to preside over the UN Security Council," referring to Iran's Islamic Republic Day holiday.

Russia assumed the presidency of the Security Council today, which rotates monthly; the last time Moscow held the presidency was in February 2022, when its forces launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
