European Stocks Open Higher

European stocks opened higher today, Monday, at the start of a week packed with important central bank meetings regarding monetary policies. The pan-European "Stoxx 600" index rose by 0.3%. The shares of "Novartis" increased by 1.1% after the company agreed to acquire the biotechnology company "Chinook" in Seattle in a deal valued at $3.5 billion. The European healthcare sector index climbed by 0.6%. Shares of German sportswear manufacturer "Adidas" surged by 3.1%. Both the Federal Reserve (the U.S. central bank) and the European Central Bank, along with the Bank of Japan, are holding important meetings this week.
