Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark received the Minister of Information in the caretaker government, Engineer Ziad Al-Makari, at the papal residence in Cairo, accompanied by the Lebanese Ambassador to Cairo, Ali Halabi, and the minister's legal advisor, lawyer Boutros Franjieh, in the presence of the Director of the Pope's Office, Monk Priest Kirellos Anba Bishoy.
During the meeting, Tawadros and Al-Makari discussed the history and present of the Coptic Orthodox Church and its national roles, highlighting the significant positive roles that Egypt has played and continues to play in the Arab region. Al-Makari praised the "reconciling roles of His Holiness the Pope since he ascended to the papacy, leaving a remarkable stamp," commending the "qualitative shift Egypt is experiencing at all levels."
Tawadros stated that "Egypt has seen development under the new republic led by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi," and mentioned, "Lebanon holds a special love for me and for all Egyptians." He indicated that he "always prays for its stability."
