The instant messaging app "WhatsApp" has begun testing a new feature that has long been used in social media networks. The tech site "WabetaInfo," which closely follows "WhatsApp" updates, reported that the app has launched a pinned message feature in the beta version.
This new service allows users to locate important messages in chats. If a user pins a specific message in a chat with another user or within a group, and the other user is using an older version of the app, they will not see the pinned message. Instead, they will see a message stating, "Someone pinned a message here... please update WhatsApp."
The new service helps improve organization in groups, where tracking messages can be difficult, especially with a large number of participants. Pinned messages can serve as important alerts to group members that administrators wish to keep visible for a long time, preventing them from getting lost under a pile of accumulated messages from users.
This new feature will come into effect in the upcoming app update. It is noteworthy that the pinned message service has been available for a long time in the competing instant messaging app "Telegram," and it is also a core component of social media platforms like "Facebook" and "Twitter."
