The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense stated today, Sunday, that ten Chinese warplanes crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, and four Chinese warships conducted "joint patrols for combat readiness." The Ministry reported that it detected 24 aircraft belonging to the Chinese air force but did not specify the locations over which these aircraft flew. It added, "Ten of them crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, which separates the two sides and was previously considered an informal boundary, as China does not recognize this division and its forces have regularly crossed the median line since last year."
In response, the ministry sent fighter jets and deployed ships and land-based missile systems to monitor the situation. Taiwanese Vice President William Lai stated today that he will do his utmost "to ensure the stability of the current peaceful situation in the Taiwan Strait" if he wins the presidency, according to his campaign.
