French Foreign Minister Heads to Armenia to Strengthen Support

Diplomats have indicated that "French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna will travel to Armenia today, Tuesday, to assess the country's urgent needs," at a time when it is facing an influx of refugees from the Nagorno-Karabakh region and the risk of Azerbaijani military operations extending to its territory. A French diplomatic source stated before Colonna's arrival in the Armenian capital Yerevan that "there is clearly a bilateral aspect to the political relations to support Armenia, which everyone can see is isolated." France and its Western allies are concerned that Armenia and its current government might make concessions, especially after it appeared that its historical military ally, Russia, had abandoned it in recent weeks.
