The Spanish Foreign Minister of the caretaker government, José Manuel Albares, announced today, Tuesday, that his government opposes proposals to suspend European Union aid to the Palestinian territories. Albares stated in an interview with the Spanish radio station Cadena SER: "This cooperation must continue; we cannot confuse Hamas, listed as a terrorist organization by the EU, with the Palestinian people or the Palestinian Authority or UN organizations on the ground." He added, "The Palestinian territories will likely need more aid in the near future following the Hamas attack on Israel last Saturday and the subsequent Israeli bombing of Gaza." EU foreign ministers are scheduled to hold a meeting this afternoon to discuss the matter.
