Former Manchester United Keeper Leaves Intensive Care

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar left intensive care on Tuesday, but he is still hospitalized after suffering a brain hemorrhage earlier this month. His wife, Annemarie, stated last week that the 52-year-old former Dutch international was transferred to a hospital in the Netherlands but remained in the intensive care unit.

Van der Sar initially entered a hospital in Split while on holiday in Croatia. He tweeted, "First and foremost, I want to thank everyone for their supportive messages. I am happy to announce that I have left the intensive care unit, but I will remain in the hospital. I hope to return home next week and take the next step in my recovery program."

Van der Sar, who spent six years at Manchester United before leaving in 2011, resigned from his position at Ajax, where he served as director, before the end of last season after the Dutch team finished third in the league, missing out on the Champions League for the first time since 2009.
