Indonesian Defense Minister Officially Runs for Presidential Election

Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto officially registered today, Wednesday, as a presidential candidate for the elections scheduled for next year. He has also nominated Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the eldest son of outgoing President Joko Widodo, for the vice presidency. Prabowo, a former special forces commander, pledged to continue efforts to develop manufacturing industries, build a new capital, and establish a government revenue agency if he wins the election next year. According to a document seen by Reuters, he will also aim for self-sufficiency in food, energy, and water.
