Professor Alexander Seryakof, an oncologist, stated in an interview with "Izvestia" that "the risk factors for the development of breast cancer in women are primarily genetics, followed by age, abortions, obesity, chronic stress, and many other factors." He revealed that "there are 15 known genetic mutations that predispose women to breast cancer, among them BRCA-1 and BRCA-2, CHEK2, and NBS1, which are usually checked for first."
He added: "In other cases, known as sporadic or random cases, environmental conditions, poor production of female sex hormones (progesterone and estrogen), hormonal disorders, being over 40 years old, abortion, severe chronic stress, obesity, lack of physical activity, and bad habits (smoking and alcohol consumption), as well as several other factors can significantly affect the development of breast cancer."
Seryakof recommends, "as a preventive measure, to exclude all these factors. Women who carry BRCA-1 and BRCA-2 genes should not neglect this and should undergo ultrasound examinations, X-rays, as well as CT scans once a year and consult a gynecological specialist."
