The Deputy Executive Director of the World Food Program of the United Nations, Carl Skau, stated today that "a new process for inspecting aid provided to Gaza is being tested at the Karm Abu Salem crossing, but efforts to obtain permits for truck entry through the crossing and to increase relief operations are still ongoing." In a statement to Reuters, Skau said, "Trucks should be allowed to enter Gaza directly through the Karm Abu Salem crossing to alleviate the worsening situation in the sector." Under the new system, trucks will arrive at the Karm Abu Salem crossing on the border between Israel and Gaza and Egypt for the first time from Jordan, before entering Gaza from Rafah, which is approximately three kilometers away.
