Arrest of 14 People in Pakistan

Pakistani police announced today, Monday, the arrest of 14 individuals accused of smuggling several migrants who drowned last week after their overloaded boat capsized in the sea off Greece. The office of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a statement saying, "The Pakistani government has ordered a high-level investigation into a human trafficking network believed to be involved." Sharif added, "My heart goes out to the grieving families who have lost their loved ones, and I pray for them." In a statement to Reuters, regional police chief Tahir Mehmood Qureshi said, "We have already arrested ten suspects belonging to a human trafficking network that sent these individuals to Europe... We are looking for other suspects." He added, "The police have already tracked some of them and are conducting raids to arrest them while others are hiding."
