MP Ibrahim Kanaan stated, after visiting Maronite Patriarch Beshara Al-Rahi at the summer headquarters of the Maronite Patriarchate in Diman, that "the visit is a traditional annual one, but it comes today under exceptional circumstances. During it, our patriarch was informed of my opinions, which he requested on several national and financial issues. The core of these issues has always been and will continue to be the respect for the constitution and the law, and the necessity of ending the deadly vacuum." He noted that "resorting to the constitution and the law simplifies everything, whereas shifting to narrow political and sectarian calculations complicates things, starting with accountability, which should not be sidelined for reform to be achieved, and the presidential elections, which should be conducted according to the proper procedures, as well as the financial file and the right of Lebanese people to access all the truths."
