The media office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates issued a statement in response to several media reports that unjustly held the ministry responsible for the shortcomings in Lebanon's payment of its contributions to the United Nations, which has resulted in the loss of its right to vote. The ministry wishes to clarify the following:
1. The ministry has been following up on the issue of outstanding contributions owed by Lebanon to several international and regional organizations, including the United Nations, which affects Lebanon's right to vote.
2. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has made several calls, reviews, and meetings with the relevant official authorities to assist in transferring the necessary funds to the Lebanese missions abroad to settle subscriptions and arrears. Minister Bou Habib has previously received promises for a swift resolution to the issue of transferring the necessary funds.
3. In its effort to avoid shifting the responsibility for the reasons behind the delays in fund transfers, which are outside the ministry's jurisdiction and scope of work, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has warned and continues to emphasize the need for immediate action on this file due to its importance and Lebanon's role in international and regional institutions.
