Bayern Munich was eliminated in the second round of the German Football Cup after a surprising 1-2 loss to third-tier host Saarbrücken. Bayern opened the scoring early with veteran Thomas Müller in the 16th minute, but the hosts equalized in stoppage time of the first half through Patrick Sonsheimer (45+1). As the match seemed headed for a draw and potential extra time, defender Marcel Gauss scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time to give Saarbrücken a stunning and remarkable victory.
