Sisi Emphasizes the Need to Protect Civilians in Gaza in Call with Biden

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from U.S. President Joe Biden on Monday evening, during which they discussed the recent developments in the tense regional situation and the military escalation in Gaza. The official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency indicated that the two presidents agreed on the seriousness of the current situation and the importance of containing it to prevent the expansion of the conflict and threats to regional security and stability. They also agreed on the priority of protecting civilians and delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The presidents discussed ongoing consultations in this regard in coordination with the United Nations, as well as efforts to advance and revive the peace process. They agreed to continue their consultations and coordinate efforts in the upcoming period. The Egyptian president reiterated Egypt's stance in rejecting policies of collective punishment, blockade, and displacement of the people of Gaza.

During a phone call between Sisi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Monday, the Egyptian president emphasized the necessity of prioritizing reason and wisdom and reviving the peace process, while both sides agreed on the importance of enhancing international and regional efforts to prevent escalation and complicating the situation security-wise and humanitarianly. Egypt is set to host a regional and international summit to discuss the future of the Palestinian issue and developments in Gaza next Saturday.
