Local officials in Nigeria reported that at least 26 people have died, with others still missing, following a boat capsizing at a dam reservoir in the central region of northern Nigeria on Sunday. This incident marks the second major accident of its kind in the area within three months. The spokesman for the Niger State governor, Bulogi Ibrahim, stated that the boat was carrying more than a hundred people, including women and children, in the Mukou Local Government Area of the state. He added that the victims were on their way to their farms, passing by a large dam. Ibrahim confirmed, "26 deaths have been confirmed, most of whom are women and children, and more than 30 people have been rescued, while a joint rescue operation by the marine police and local divers, in collaboration with the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, is ongoing."
