Al Jazeera correspondent Carmen Joukhadar is accustomed to being present at hot spots, moving from one event to another. She once wrote while following the painful events in Arsal and Saydnaya, as well as in the countryside of Quneitra and Maaloula: "It is not a profession of seeking trouble, but rather a profession of seeking humanity amidst the brutality of war and the horror of debris." This brutality has now struck her while she was responding to the call in southern Lebanon. While she was fortunate to survive this time from the Israeli killing machine, her luck sadly did not extend to her young colleague, photographer Issam Abdullah. She is expected to recover quickly, as the will of a journalist is stronger than their exhausted body.
Regarding Carmen's health condition, she underwent emergency surgery in one of the hospitals in Tyre and was transferred that night to the American University Hospital in Beirut for further treatment. Just days ago, Carmen mentioned that the first Israeli airstrike in Marwahin, southern Lebanon, fell directly behind her. According to Al Jazeera's office in Beirut, a drone likely targeted the journalists with a missile while they were gathered together to avoid being targeted.
