Russia accused the West on Friday of sponsoring "nuclear terrorism" after authorities reported that a Ukrainian drone struck the town of Kurschatov in the western part of the country, where a nuclear power plant similar to Chernobyl, which previously faced a disaster, is located. The governor of Russia's Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, Roman Starovoit, stated that "the Ukrainian drone struck a residential building in Kurschatov, which was built during the Soviet era on the banks of the cooling pond for the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, which is still in operation." He wrote on Telegram: "A drone crashed in the town of Kurschatov last night... Fortunately, no residents were harmed. Vital facilities were not damaged due to the drone crash and its explosion." He added that "the only damage was to the facade and windows of one residential building," explaining that "authorities will assist residents with restoration efforts." So far, there has been no response from Ukraine, which regularly faces numerous Russian drone attacks and rarely comments on drone strikes or sabotage attacks suspected to have been carried out inside Russia.
