American league officials announced that Lionel Messi's debut in the domestic league will be delayed for some time due to his team, Inter Miami, qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Leagues Cup. Inter Miami officially announced, via a statement on its "X" account, the postponement of their match against Charlotte FC, which was scheduled for August 20 in the 23rd round of the regular season of the Eastern Conference for the 2023 American league season.
The statement added: "Tickets purchased for the match scheduled on August 20 will be valid for the new date when the match is rescheduled."
The American league also stated: "As of now, it appears that Messi's first league match will be against New York Red Bulls on August 26."
Messi has managed to score seven goals during four matches, all in the 2023 Leagues Cup, which features clubs from both the American and Mexican leagues, placing him fourth among Inter Miami's all-time top scorers.
Inter Miami will face Charlotte on Friday at the DRV PNK Stadium in Miami in the quarter-finals of the Leagues Cup, and the winner will at least advance to the semi-finals and the third-place match scheduled for August 19.
