Norway Bans Cars Registered in Russia

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry announced today, Friday, that the country has joined Finland, the Baltic states, and Poland in banning the entry of passenger cars registered in Russia, effective from October 3. This step is part of Western measures aimed at depriving Russia of the income it uses to finance its invasion of Ukraine. Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt stated in a statement, "It is important that the sanctions are effective so that we can prevent as much revenue as possible that the Russian state needs to finance the war." The Foreign Ministry added that vehicles owned by Norwegian citizens or citizens of the European Economic Area who reside permanently in Russia or their family members will be exempt from the ban, which applies to vehicles with nine seats or fewer. Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland have imposed similar bans following directives from the European Commission.
