Red Cross Accompanies Ambulance Convoy from Gaza to Rafah Crossing

The International Committee of the Red Cross announced today, Monday, that it "accompanied a convoy of four ambulances transporting patients from Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City to the Rafah border crossing, breaking a temporary halt on evacuation operations following an Israeli strike on an ambulance." William Schomburg, head of the ICRC office in Gaza, stated that "it is a great relief to know that these patients are safe and will receive urgent medical care." He added that "two vehicles belonging to the ICRC accompanied the ambulances." The border authority in the Gaza Strip confirmed that the Rafah crossing is only open for the evacuation of Egyptians and foreigners listed as permitted to leave since November 1st. The statement from the authority noted that those not listed will not be able to cross the border according to a notification from the Egyptian authorities.
