Following the discussions surrounding the concession for online gambling by Casino Lebanon, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati has reached out to Finance Minister Youssef Khalil today, requesting him to "present the issue in detail along with all related documents to the Court of Accounts and the Public Procurement Authority, each according to its jurisdiction, to provide a legal opinion on it, especially regarding the contracting method and its content, and to suspend the concession until the required opinions are received."
The head of the Public Procurement Authority, Jean El Ali, warned in a statement that if Casino Lebanon's management does not comply with the legal obligations required by the Public Procurement Law, it will find itself compelled to request the Court of Accounts to impose the maximum financial penalties stipulated in Article 112 of the Public Procurement Law. Additionally, it will exercise its right to resort to judicial reviews if necessary, in accordance with Article 77 of the Public Procurement Law. He also cautioned other purchasing entities that have not yet adhered to the provisions of the Public Procurement Law or have only partially complied, that similar actions will be taken against them if they do not fully comply as soon as possible.
The general director of the casino contacted the head of the Public Procurement Authority and announced his readiness to implement the law and send the documents related to the contracts being handled by the casino's management to the authority.
