Violence in Sudan's Darfur Claims 20 Lives

Sudanese paramedics announced today, Friday, that 22 people were shot dead in violence in West Darfur state over the past week. The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors indicated that "the rural hospital in Forbaranga has been closed due to security deficiencies in protection." The United Nations stated that "the burning and looting of homes as part of the violence between the Massalit tribe and Arab tribes has led to the displacement of about 20,000 people, with some crossing the border into Chad." Clashes have intensified since the peace agreement reached in 2020 and the coup that occurred in October 2021. Tensions between the army and the Rapid Support Forces may further escalate the insecurity.
