FIFA and UEFA Abused Their Power in the Super League

The European Court of Justice ruled today, Thursday, that the International Football Federation "FIFA" and the European Football Union "UEFA" misused their influence by directly preventing clubs from competing in the European Super League. However, the court also added that the competition may not have received approval yet. The court mentioned that "UEFA's rules" and those of the Belgian Football Union regarding domestic players might conflict with EU law. A player and the Belgian club Royal Antwerp challenged UEFA and the Belgian federation’s rules that require a minimum number of "local players" in teams. Royal Antwerp argued that these rules hinder the club from signing players and fielding them on the grounds that they do not meet local or national requirements, which violates EU competition rules and the freedom of movement for workers.
