The Spanish outlet "Marca" reported on its website that the German police confirmed the incident after various local media outlets reported it.

The situation escalated when a violent confrontation occurred between the Berlin players and the French team players after the match. A player from the French team struck the victim on the neck and head, leaving him unconscious. He was taken to the hospital, where it was revealed that he was brain-dead. The newspaper reported that the authorities arrested the assailant, who is currently in pretrial detention.

The tournament organizers commented on their website: "We are shocked by what happened; it is very sad. We are thinking of the victim's teammates and family." Meanwhile, FC Metz, the club of the alleged assailant, denied on its website that its player intentionally injured the opponent and confirmed that the club is at the disposal of the German authorities to clarify what happened.
