Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the runner-up from last year's edition and aiming for her first Grand Slam title, displayed a strong performance by defeating unseeded Polish player Magdalena Frech 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of Wimbledon tennis tournament on Tuesday. Throughout the season, the Tunisian player faced injuries and her preparations for Wimbledon were not ideal, having been eliminated early in Berlin and Eastbourne. However, the world number six showcased her typical performance against Frech.
After missing an opportunity to break her opponent's serve, ranked 70th in the world, Jabeur took the lead in the fifth game with her precise shots to clinch the first set. The 28-year-old, who lost last year’s final to Elena Rybakina, displayed her range of shots to lead 3-1 in the second set. Contrary to the flow of the match, Frech broke Jabeur's serve to level the score, but the Tunisian player ensured to wrap things up quickly after needing three sets to defeat the 25-year-old in Indian Wells earlier this year.
Jabeur regained her advantage after Frech hit a shot beyond the court boundaries, closing out the match on her own serve and setting up a clash with unseeded Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure or Chinese qualifier Bai Xiyuan.
