Israel ruled out a ceasefire in Gaza on Wednesday and denied reports from government spokesperson Ilana Stein suggesting the possibility of a new agreement with the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) to halt fighting in exchange for the release of hostages. The spokesperson said: "In response to reports about ceasefire agreements, Israel will not abandon the destruction of Hamas and the return of all hostages, and Gaza will not pose a security threat to Israel." She added: "There will be no ceasefire. There were truces for humanitarian purposes. Hamas violated this agreement."
