Visit by Azzedine, General Khair, and Haidar to the Displaced Persons Shelters in Tyre

The head of the Parliamentary Committee for Women and Children, MP Inaya Azzedine, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the Higher Relief Commission, General Mohamad Khair, and the Director-General of the Council of the South, Hashem Haidar, toured the shelters housing displaced persons from border villages to Tyre to assess their conditions. The visit was attended by the president of the Union of Municipalities of Tyre, engineer Hassan Dabbouq, the organizational official for the Mount Amal region, engineer Ali Ismail, and several regional leaders.

Azzedine noted that "this tour aims to review the health and food situations and the shelter conditions in Tyre and outside for the refugees from villages that have been bombed." She emphasized that "the shelters in Tyre have been equipped according to the available resources, but it has become clear that if the number of displaced persons increases, there will not be the capacity to meet their needs, especially regarding health supplies, which are lacking."

General Khair stated that "based on the directives of the Prime Minister in the caretaker government, Najib Mikati, we conducted a tour in Tyre this morning, indicating that there is complete coordination to provide assistance given the rapidly changing situation that requires quick responses, starting from securing shelters for the displaced so that schools are not affected nor the students harmed." He added that today's meeting focuses on securing all necessities for the displaced through a responsive plan, and regarding urgent matters, they will be worked on as quickly as possible with the relevant authorities, saying, "We will not stand by; we will be alongside all the families."

Then, the Director-General of the Council of the South, Hashem Haidar, confirmed that the meeting today in Tyre is to follow up on the issue of the displaced persons, noting that "many parties have provided assistance to them, but there are still shortages, and efforts are underway to secure these from the Council of the South after necessary funds are secured for these tasks," affirming that compensation will be provided to owners of destroyed and damaged homes, stating, "We will not abandon our people; this is our minimum duty."
