Beijing, the capital of China, recorded its highest level of rainfall this year as remnants of Typhoon "Doksuri" passed through the city on Monday, forcing over 31,000 people to evacuate their homes, according to state television.
The National Meteorological Center of China reported that heavy rainfall continued in the capital and several areas, including Hebei, Tianjin, and eastern Shanxi, as the typhoon dissipated over northern China.
Average rainfall in Beijing overnight reached 140.7 millimeters, with the maximum recorded in Fangshan District at 500.4 millimeters, according to the city's observatory. More heavy rains are expected in the southern and western regions today.
Official media reported no immediate news of damage or injuries. It stated that work had halted at over 4,000 construction sites, and nearly 20,000 buildings were inspected for damage, with tourist sites in the city closed.
As Typhoon "Doksuri" continues to weaken, meteorologists warned of the approaching tropical storm "Ka-non," which is expected to hit the densely populated Chinese coast this week.
Authorities noted that storm "Ka-non" could cause further damage to corn and other crops already affected by Typhoon "Doksuri." "Doksuri" has been one of the most powerful storms to hit China in years, causing widespread flooding over the weekend in the southern Fujian province, prompting hundreds of thousands to leave their homes.
