Public Works and Transport Minister Ali Hamieh met with Indian Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammed Noor Rahman Sheikh in his office on Monday afternoon. The ambassador was accompanied by Consul and Commercial Attaché Ajay Kumar and Trade Relations Officer Rana Zeitouni. They discussed the latest general developments and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries, particularly in sectors relevant to the ministry.
Hamieh congratulated the Indian ambassador on his new position in Lebanon and wished him "success in his duties." He emphasized that "the historical friendship between the two countries necessitates exploring ways to enhance its growth on various levels, especially in vital sectors related to the ministry, particularly in the railway transport sector, given India's extensive experience in this field."
He added, "The current global trend is towards establishing new transport corridors, with railway transport at their center, which necessitates Lebanon working to revive its railway system." In this context, Hamieh welcomed all specialized Indian investment companies to consider investing in Lebanon, particularly in sectors and facilities overseen by the ministry, especially in specialized maritime ports and the transport and railway sectors.
For his part, the Indian ambassador confirmed that "enhancing the growth of the historical relationship between India and Lebanon is a priority," noting that "the initiatives launched by India today worldwide are fundamentally based on the principle of global friendship and exchange of expertise," expressing his country’s interest in strengthening Indian-Lebanese relations.
