On Wednesday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde reported that "at least two people were killed and dozens were injured due to an explosion of explosive materials stored in a house in the state." The governor announced the death of two individuals and the injury of 77, most of whom have been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment. He added that "preliminary investigations by security agencies revealed that illegal miners residing in a house in Bodija had stored explosive devices there, which caused the explosion."
Security and emergency services used bulldozers to clear debris during the search and rescue operation in a neighborhood of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, located about 130 kilometers from Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital. Roofs and windows of some houses were shattered, with owners standing by watching as authorities searched for survivors. The police cordoned off the accident site, where a massive crater was created by the explosion.
