Evacuation of Dozens of Residents in Serbia and Bosnia Due to Flooding

Authorities declared a state of emergency in several areas today, Friday, due to heavy rainfall that caused flooding in Serbia and Bosnia. The Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs stated, "1,300 rescue workers and 22 boats have been deployed to evacuate dozens of residents in various locations." Kragujevac Mayor Nikola Dašić noted that "rescue teams evacuated 12 people from their homes as the Lepenica River overflowed its banks, while authorities rescued 22 others from a village near the town of Jagodina." The river's waters caused the collapse of a bridge near the city of Kraljevo in the southwest of the country. Additionally, smaller rivers overflowed their banks, cutting off roads and power lines. A landslide blocked a road near the city of Srebrenica, and residents were warned of the potential for flooding around the capital Sarajevo.
