Death of Sixth Palestinian Detainee in Israeli Prisons

Palestinian and Israeli sources confirmed the death of a Palestinian detainee in an Israeli prison, raising the number of Palestinian detainees who have died in Israeli prisons since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas to six. The Palestinian Prisoners' Club announced that the deceased detainee is "Thar Abu Asib (38 years old) from Qalqilya." It was explained that "Abu Asib was arrested in 2005 and is serving a 25-year sentence for belonging to the Fatah movement."

The Prisoners' Club stated in a press release that "the number of deaths among prisoners in occupation jails, for this period of time, is unprecedented, and we affirm that what happened to the six prisoners is a systematic assassination with premeditation." According to the Palestinian Prisoners' Club, the number of individuals arrested by Israel since the outbreak of war has exceeded 2,700, and the total number of detainees in Israeli prisons is close to 8,000.

For its part, the Israeli Prison Service stated in a release that "an investigation will be conducted into the cause of death." The Israeli Prison Service announced a reduction in the living conditions for Palestinian detainees, including the cancellation of visits, keeping them in their rooms, and confiscating all electrical appliances from their cells.
