Jordanian Army: We Killed Drug and Weapon Smugglers Coming from Syria

The Jordanian Army announced today, Saturday, that "a number of drug and weapon smugglers were killed during clashes that began at dawn while they were infiltrating from Syria across Jordan's northern border." In detail, the Jordanian army stated that five drug traffickers who had crossed from Syria with large quantities of weapons and drugs were killed. Security sources told "Reuters" that the army pursued more than 80 armed smugglers who crossed the border into Jordan under cover of thick fog. Jordanian and regional intelligence sources revealed to "Reuters" that "Jordan launched airstrikes inside Syria on Thursday targeting what are believed to be warehouses and hideouts of drug smugglers linked to Iran." The army has intensified its campaign against drug traffickers following prolonged clashes last month with dozens of armed infiltrators from Syria connected to groups allied with Iran.
