China's Ministry of Commerce warned today, Thursday, of the potential negative impact on economic and trade relations with the European Union, following an investigation launched by the European Commission indicating concerns that the Chinese electric vehicle sector may have benefited from government support. The investigation, which began yesterday, will determine whether the purpose of imposing punitive tariffs is to protect EU producers from the influx of cheaper Chinese electric vehicles. "Global markets are now flooded with cheaper Chinese electric cars. And their price is kept artificially low by huge state subsidies. We are launching an anti-subsidy investigation into electric vehicles coming from China." — President @vonderleyen #SOTEU 2023 pic.twitter.com/1xSiv3VzmM — European Commission (@EU_Commission) September 13, 2023
