Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein stated in an interview with Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath channels that "Iraq determines the necessity of the presence of American forces or not," emphasizing that the coalition forces "are present at the invitation of the Iraqi government." He continued, "We do not want to create a chaotic situation in relations with Washington," considering that "the internal situation must be prepared before starting negotiations for the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq. Based on the results of the negotiations, the necessary decision will be made, whether it is withdrawal or scheduling withdrawal."
He added, "There have been negotiations in the past, and there was a military security delegation in Washington a few months ago. The negotiating process with Washington has stopped, but dialogue is ongoing. Soon we will announce the date for starting negotiations, at what level, and in what manner." He also mentioned that Baghdad has assured Washington that the Iraqi government "is committed to de-escalation," stating that "the recent events are unacceptable, as there have been attacks and counterattacks."
