The British police announced the formation of a new unit to address threats posed by Iran, China, and Russia. According to this announcement, there are many concerns regarding these risks, especially with the elections taking place this year in the United Kingdom. Matt Jax, Head of UK Counter Terrorism Policing, stated on Friday that the evidence and general sentiment among officers is that the challenge posed by Britain's adversaries "is greater now than it was during the Cold War." He told journalists, "We are talking about parts of the government apparatus in Iran, China, and Russia."
The UK enacted a National Security Law last June, making it more challenging for other countries to spy, steal trade secrets, and interfere in the nation's political system. The Head of UK Counter Terrorism Policing mentioned that the new specialized investigation unit would use the new powers outlined in this law. He added, "We will be the most visible part of the UK security community; to enhance our response to these actions by hostile governments."
