The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, announced today, Monday, that the court is "seriously investigating any alleged crimes" in Gaza. He added, "As I have repeatedly confirmed, those who do not comply with the law cannot later complain when my office acts within its jurisdiction." Khan reiterated that the court is "engaged in investigating any alleged crimes" in the Gaza Strip. He stated, "Those who violate the law will be held accountable." He pointed out that when "60 percent of the population are children and women according to all accounts, the risks faced by civilians are significant... I give this situation utmost priority." Khan called for the release of all hostages taken by Hamas militants after the attack on October 7, clarifying that this "also represents an important focus of our investigations." Although Israel is not a member of the court, which is based in The Hague and does not recognize its jurisdiction, Khan confirmed that his court has jurisdiction over any potential war crimes committed by Hamas in Israel or by Israelis in the Gaza Strip.
