Millions of internet users use many common passwords, making their accounts susceptible to hacking. Internet thieves can breach them in just one second because some are easy to guess. A team of researchers from “NordPass” issued a warning to users to check their settings. According to the findings, it seems that people continue to use well-known passwords like “123456,” “qwerty,” and even “password.”
Despite endless warnings about online security, millions of accounts still remain easy targets for attacks. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that your password is difficult for hackers to guess. “NordPass” released a list of the most hacked passwords worldwide, and if you are using any of them, the advice is simple: change your password now to make it more secure.
Here are the top 10 common passwords globally: 123456, 123456789, 12345, qwerty, password, 12345678, 111111, 123123, 1234567890, 1234567. Alongside frequently used passwords, researchers found that a large number of people use their names along with profanity. “NordPass” research also revealed that the word “dolphin” ranked first among animal-related passwords in many countries.
If your password is too simple and you’re concerned that your accounts may be at risk, the optimal advice from most experts is to change your passwords regularly and use combinations that are hard to guess. “NordPass” explains that the best password is one that is complex, containing at least 12 characters with a variety of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
Another important piece of advice is to ensure that you have different passwords for your online accounts, as relying on a single password for multiple accounts pleases hackers. If one account is compromised, consider all your other accounts at risk. Internet security experts recommend changing passwords every 90 days to keep your accounts secure and deter thieves.
