Beckham Praises Inter Miami Star

David Beckham, a co-owner of Inter Miami soccer club, stated that "the team's signing of World Cup champion Argentina's Lionel Messi last year was a gift for the United States and Major League Soccer." The former Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain star said in an interview with Agence France-Presse on Wednesday during a match at the Cricket World Cup in Mumbai: "When someone tells me that Lionel Messi is playing with Inter Miami, I still can't believe it."

He added, "As an owner, I am extremely proud to have the best player in the world on the team. We knew that bringing Leo to the United States, not just to Miami, was a gift for the United States and Major League Soccer." Beckham, who retired from football in 2013, continued: "Because a person like him (Messi) changes the game, he is an inspiration for a whole generation of players. That’s why we wanted Leo on the team. Of course, we also want to win titles, to be the best team in the league. But one reason for signing him is to be an inspiration for the next generation of players in the United States."

Regarding England's chances in the Euro 2024 in Germany, the former captain of the "Three Lions" expressed that he "really believes in this English team, in coach Gareth Southgate, and in what he's been doing for several years," stating: "Unfortunately, we lost in the last Euro final to Italy, but we came very close to winning." He added, "In Euro 2024, we indeed have a chance, with young players like Cole Palmer and Jude Bellingham, among others. And of course, there’s the captain and goal scorer Harry Kane, who continues to serve as a role model for the team and scores goals."
