World Champion Milotyte Undergoes Foot Surgery

The Lithuanian Swimming Federation indicated today, Friday, that "Ruta Milotyte, the gold medalist in breaststroke at the London 2012 Olympics, on whom her country relies for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, underwent foot surgery and is expected to resume training in early April." The Lithuanian swimming federation stated on its website: "Milotyte underwent surgery in Kaunas after returning from Qatar." The federation confirmed that it expects "a quick rehabilitation phase, as the procedure is considered simple," adding that "Milotyte will have to wear a special brace for three weeks." It noted that "this procedure will not disrupt her regular preparation plan for the Olympic Games in Paris. In any case, she was scheduled to have rest for two to three weeks after the World Championships in Doha." Milotyte is the world record holder and world champion in the non-Olympic 50-meter breaststroke event and won the 100-meter race gold medal at the London Summer Olympics in 2012 when she was 15 years old. She was the world champion in the 100 meters in 2023 but failed to reach the semifinals at the World Championship held last month in Doha. The Paris Summer Olympics will commence on July 26.
