Egypt: Beware of These Fake Pages!

The Egyptian government warned today, Friday, about pages circulating on social media claiming to be affiliated with the Egyptian Post and using its logo. These pages claim to sell postal parcels in exchange for money and request citizens to transfer amounts from their personal accounts. The media center of the Cabinet stated in a statement that "in light of the circulated pages on social media attributed to the Egyptian Post, which use its logo under the pretense of selling postal parcels in an auction for money and requesting citizens to transfer those amounts from their personal accounts, the center contacted the National Postal Authority, which denied this news." It confirmed that there is no truth to the sale of postal parcels in an auction for money or the request for any financial transfers from citizens from their personal accounts, and that the circulating pages are fake, as are the parcels advertised on those pages, with no affiliation to the postal authority whatsoever. They stressed that all postal parcels are governed by conditions and regulations according to the law. The National Postal Authority clarified that "all announcements related to its activities and news are made officially through the authority's official communication channels or directly through communication on the hotline." The authority warned citizens against dealing with these pages, "which aim to exploit their personal data and financial accounts," adding that "all legal measures will be taken against those promoting these fake pages."
